Summary of the Interview: Sébastien Gioria explained that he is a consultant specialising in the security of information systems and represents OWASP France. The OWASP is an independent organisation that was founded in the USA in 2002. Around 1000 international security experts are OWASP members and contributors. The French chapter dates to the end of 2006. A lot of work needs to be done in France to create and strenghten awareness of the problems attached to the security of web applications. Part of the French contribution will include the translation of OWASP best practice guides and documents into French. Asked about who the OWASP specifically addresses, Gioria explained that the target audience included every function in the security chain: application architects, developers, auditors etc. Although still relatively new in this territory, OWASP recommendations are being adopted by French organistions including an insurance compnay and a telco operator. The OWASP has just released V1 of a security API that is available on the OWASP website together with other testing tools and guides. Questioned about the OWASP-Bee Ware relationship, Sébastien Gioria said that Bee Ware has long been a supporter of the organsisation, in particular in Belgium in the past. Bee Ware, like other organisations active in the field of web application security, has a security approach that suits the OWASP way of thinking.
